During our poetry unit, we had the privilege to collaborate with graphic design students from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Each graphic designer set out to design forms and distribute our poems in unique ways that addressed the central message of each poem. Below you can see my poem’s design by Courtney. Enjoy! 

Previous Publishings

As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism. 

November Party

Happy birthday to yo.. “WAIT you came too far in the story let's rewind. Mimimimimi there enjoy.” ...   

My birthday was on a Sunday so grandpa had a party, for all of November birth day. Yes I said when going into grampas. Hello because we always do that at parties because grandpa has Big parties. 

On the cake my name was in the corner so I got the corner piece. My dad's birthday is on November 8th so we were next to each other on the cake. 

Look dad we are on the cake said we're on the cake sweet badum dum tss. 

When we were done helping me and Maggie went downstairs and like a bug on the windshield, Dalia hugs me. I didn't see her because she hid. That's her way of greeting me, she is one of my best friend’s. The downstairs is where the kids hang out but now it's where we are going to play board games. When mac and cheese was in the kitchen all the kids ran upstairs except no actually everyone got some even Kaiden So back down the stairs we were playing UNO { i'm losing } Ono Maggie said. Next since we all finished our mac and cheese we played shark tag, so basically you're a shark and if you're on the ground and you get tagged you were  the shark the next round and Kaiden won the round and Talia lost so she was the new shark. She said we had to go easy. We did { actually nope we said we were but we weren't}. I went on the couch and I got cornered and I jumped on the ground and ran to  the cair safe’’ I hate this she said’’. Well don't play, I said. Kaiden said he would be the shark but on one condition, nothing! I won obviously. But Maggie lost and I was scared because she would try to get me! I stayed in one corner,so she couldn’t see me but I escaped barley. So I lost but I went for Dalia but she kicked the chair closer to her and jumped on it {by the way that was fake I got lazy and exhausted}.

  We went on Sunday and Dalia used to live there so we did sleepovers with her when I slept at grampas. But Kaiden and Talia barley went when we were there. We still sleep over there house { I might make a story about a crazy time}. So we made the most of it by staying till they left when they left and always mostly went to their house to sleep over. But today is the day we talk about the party. We all go to the table to sing happy birthday now you're here just in time happy birthday to y wait no actually you came at the right spot keep singing to you happy birthday to you happy birthday everyone who has a november birthday happy birthday to you! After the cake and stuff we had a good time also I forgot everything after that sooo see you with the next story sleepover part 1 if you excuse me I have to get my presents ooo ben 10 toys.     

Lazer Gate 

Today was very special, so listen up. Today was Liam and my birthday, so we went to lazer gate. It has a huge arcade compared to our small bodies. Our eyes went to the air hockey table. We played air hockey for an hour. We got tokens from my dad who gave me 3$ and Liam's dad gave him 3$ too, so we got 70 tokens! We played a lot of games, mostly air hockey, but we played other games. When the lazer match started, we were the first ones in because Liam’s dad and sister gave us a head start. No one was there except us so we hid in the tower. We got the higher ground so we would see if his sister was coming because we were all on the same team against their dad. She did, so we made sure no one got to us. His dad started shooting and we retreated and we all got lost. The idea hit me, he wore a black shirt. He must be sneaky, you can't shoot with one hand on the lazer. Also the rule is you can't run but everyone speed walks and runs. No doubt he won. The next round was with other people, so we were all Team  B-day (get it it's our birthday). When the lazer tag started we ran to the two watchtowers. We found the red base, then we ambushed them and got the points. Haha… ANYWAY!!!! We found the blue base (well, I found it) after we split up. I was getting shot at and when I found Liam, we got cornered. They thought we went sideways, so we surprise attacked the green team by crouching down and shooting, then ran because they were 18! We were 7. We ran so fast, we felt like Sonic. We found a secret cave where we could shoot too, so we got about 120 people. The match ended and we saw the score. Blue won, we were blue! We won!
