Birthday Surprise

I typed in the code to my house, “beep, bop, beep,” I turned the silver handle and carried in my black teaching bag, gifts and cards from the day. “Helllo?” I called out to see where David was. “Heyyy, happy birthday!”, him and his friends Marc, Will, and Kobie called out to me. They were all sitting on the couch in the living room to the right of the door. “Hey guys!” I replied a little surprised that they were all there. I plopped all of my belongings down on the table. “Phewwww, what a day,” I sighed out. “My students and Mandy spoiled me all day long,” I looked over to the guys and asked,“Are you guys getting dinner with us?” “ I’m starving!” They all glanced at each other and giggled a bit. As I looked a little closer they all had their phones in their hands. “What’s going on?” I asked. As soon as I asked them, I heard a weird snorting noise coming from behind me. I turned around and to my surprise there was a big black crate in the corner of the living room. It took me a minute to process what was going on. I walked closer to the crate and knelt down on the wooden floor in front of it. Inside the black crate was the tiniest and cutest French Bulldog. He was black with spots of grey that speckled his body. His ears were as pointy as a tip of a freshly sharpened pencil and were almost as big as his head! I turned towards David and asked, “Who is this!?” My voice started to crack as I felt the tears forming in my eyes. I had never seen something so adorable and innocent. He replied, “This is Buster, happy birthday!”. I gently reached inside the crate and picked him up. I cradled him into my chest and felt the warmth of his body against me. He was as soft as a brand new stuffed animal and he smelt like puppy breath.
