During our poetry unit, we had the privilege to collaborate with graphic design students from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Each graphic designer set out to design forms and distribute our poems in unique ways that addressed the central message of each poem. Below you can see my poem’s design by Martha. Enjoy! 

Previous Publishings

As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism. 

“Hey Dad” I said, “can I go to papi’s house.” (I call my grandpa, papi).

 “I guess so” my dad said.

I got ready. We drove to my Papi’s house where the first person I saw was my Auntie Avian with my baby cousin. I was so happy to see him. It was my first time seeing him. We got along fast. He did not like my older sister at first, he was crying and chewing on her long dark hair, I was so mad cause my she was stealing my baby cousin. He was so cute. When he was not much hair his hair was blond but is slowly went brown, he had gold-brown skin and he knows how to stand. He loved to chew on things, when I brought my unicorn stuffed animal he grabbed it from me and chewed it with his toothless mouth. When I first held him I had to tighten my arms because he was falling. He was holding my face and pulling my eyebrows and after that every time I came on the weekends I held him so much.  I did not like him pulling my face I just rocked him to sleep, and on the weekdays I missed him. He was like my baby brother. He was so cute and heavy too. THE END

My New Nintendo

On Christmas day 2019 there my little sister Avaya woke me up at about 6:00am so I woke up my family and went to open presents where I saw my elf on the smelly christmas tree. I wanted to jump in all the presents.When we finished opening what we thought was the rest of the presents I saw a present way in the back.I got it and opened it.It was for me and my sisters.I jumped and fell on the couch. Me and my sisters screamed all at the same time.My dad started opening the box and set it up.It was a nintendo switch.They did not get me games for it until I found out why. Later on we went to my grandma’s house and waited  there for my cousin to come so we could open the presents. I ate a quick snack while waiting for them to come,I had a donut.When I started opening my presents there was a gift with games for my nintendo.I got crash bandicoot,lego movie2 game,mortal Kombat,and jurassic world.I thanked my mom,dad,and my grandparents.THE END
