During our poetry unit, we had the privilege to collaborate with graphic design students from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Each graphic designer set out to design forms and distribute our poems in unique ways that addressed the central message of each poem. Below you can see my poem’s design by Matt. Enjoy!

As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism. 

The time I met a friend.

“Congratulations Anthony ‘“

  and my brother said thankyou to the person. We were celebrating my brother’s confirmation. Also ate food and when we were full we sat down and watched a  movie. We wanted to go outside because we were bored and wanted to go outside.We told my moo  and she  said two tell your brother because my mom was having fun 

and my brother  said yes. And when me and my cousin went outside to my backwart   I to be quiet because we can;t screened.   but when my cousin    screened  a boy from next door  and we    said “do you want to play with us?” 

and he said   “yes.”

And my friend  was trying to run really fast really because she was  going to get a tag and  we played  tag and we had a lot of fun. We all ran around. I was running to not get a tag because he was following Also because I  always wanted to have a friend next door because I was always bored and because he is funny I know my cousin was happy because he was smiling when we were playing. . Also when it was night we went in side we were hunger me and my cousin   ask people if they want coffey   olne two people said they wonid coffey so me and my cousin made 4 coffey because me and my cousin also so wanid coffey to so when we were down we gave the coffey to the other to people who wanid coffey  so we made 4 coffey my and my cousin also got a coffey because we also wanted coffey when we finished they went home but before they went home I told everybody about my new friend about my new friend and they were all happy. I slept happy because he was a lot of fun and I would never be bored again and always not be in my house all the time.   

         When I get my favorite game.

One day I got a Nintendo and I played Fortnite. I was happy because I really wanted one. my dad gave and my mom put their money together and bot it.I really wanted the new superhero my dad called his  brother and my dads brother has a baby she was called Sherlyn me and my brother played with her while  my dads  brother was working in the Nintendo.After a few hours  it was  ready i told my brother to let me use the Nintendo and he didn’t like it.He did not like it because I told my dad and and my mom cuz I really want it.Also when i don't have it. I was very sad because I was nervous I was never going to get the game. My uncle said hi” and then I said hi”and my dad and my brother.and the by like 10 times i was getting sad  and after a few minutes my brother got in my brother because I used to tell them to let me use his phone and he  din;t like it.they had to go to a  birthday party we also had to go to a birthday party.Also we went to to the  same party.We had to get ready  and he said b”i and i said bi “and my dad and my brother.Also I brought the Nintendo with me and i played and it was fun i played but when I realiness it did not have charger and when i charger it i played into it was night.Also i liked the party.The game was called fortnite and it was for me and my brother also played the game to.
