During our poetry unit, we had the privilege to collaborate with graphic design students from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Each graphic designer set out to design forms and distribute our poems in unique ways that addressed the central message of each poem. Below you can see my poem’s design by Michael. As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism. 

The Month Before Christmas

I was having a great day so far but next month is Christmas. I have   to think of what I want! -- “hmmm...what do I want for Christmas? I thought to myself. 

while I was watching  fortnite on my old tablet I came across a ad of a new tablet that I wanted I kept watching the ad as it started to snow

 I went outside and couldn't stop thinking of the tablet for some reason  it was time to ask my mom and my dad about it they said  it was very pretty the tablet was the Galaxy tab S6 back to the  begging. I told my mom that I would be a great kid which I already am a great kid so not much of a deal back to the story. I showed my mom everything the tablet should do. I showed her how it could   turn into a computer. You can play all types of games and you could also connect any controller to it. I could never stop thinking of the tablet.

 I watched videos of it. I couldn't stop every night , I couldn't stop thinking of the tablet!

I showed my friends I showed my cousin I showed everybody!It took so long for christmas it felt like it was 1,000 years the only way to make it go by faster is by sleeping but I couldn't  sleep guss why?I was thinking of the tablet!It was like a nightmare  a good nightmares a nightmare  I could never forget.I

I took so long for christmas 1 day 1 week even 1 year not really but it felt like it.It was christmas eve the presents sparked at I knew i wanted to open it but I waited until christmas day there went quickly the time then I started playing fortnite on my PS4 and it was christmas morning.  I still had to wait for my parents to get back from work I almost forgot to get a present for my little brother so I went to the store and bought some v-bucks for fortnite I also made a Christmas card for my parents  so me and my brother hided when we home and my parents came inside and we popped out saying. “MERRY CHRISTMAS”!We all got together and hugged each other and they said MERRY CHRISTMAS too I hugged both of my parents and started opening  gifts my brother went first he got a gift card from me and he got a nintendo switch game he was happy he started playing the new game the game was called Mario kart 8 deluxe  then It was my turn I opened the present inside was a computer keyboard and a case for a tablet I wanted I was excited I opened the other present and inside was clothes just kidding it was the tablet I was so excited I gave it to my dad so he can put the e mail and stuff I other stuff I didn't know I was so excited.   I just had to play I couldn't wait then I finally got to play  I had a lot of fun its something I could never forget.Pss I’m thinking of it right now it's still haunting me!!!!BOO!!!

My Pet

I woke up and my mom told me” to get up and go to my babysitter.” In Spanish my mom said I got dressed and had breakfast. I had pancakes. I got in the car. I was still tired, I still wanted to sleep. The reason I went there is because I didn't have school. So when I got there I fell straight asleep.When I got there it was 6.00. I woke up and I saw two kids eating on the table then I sat on the table. I was kinda nervous. Then I saw 2 dogs in a cage at first. I was a little scared. I wanted to take the little one out. He looked very cute so I took him out. He was very playful and had a lot of fur and his tail kept wagging and he kept liking me. I felt very happy. I really wanted to keep him so my babysitter asked me” if I wanted to keep him” so I waited until my mom came to ask if I could keep him. So I still played with him.Then my mom came I begged my mom to keep him. My mom said” maybe I had to ask my dad before I got him”. So my dad said “yes” because he always wanted a dog so we went to get supplies like,dog food,toys,a bed,and a cage.Then we went to get him when I got him he was very excited to see his new owner.We got home he was very happy we gave him treats after that   my cousin came downstairs me and my brother and cousin decided to name him marshal and then we started playing with him he’s also 1 years old.And to this day I still love him.
