During our poetry unit, we had the privilege to collaborate with graphic design students from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Each graphic designer set out to design forms and distribute our poems in unique ways that addressed the central message of each poem. Below you can see my poem’s design by Michael. Enjoy!

As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism.
The Great Wolf Lodge!!!
When I got to Great Wolf Lodge I brought Ethan. I went to my hotel room and I changed my clothes and I put on a swimsuit and I was jumping up and down because I was so excited! I asked my mom if I could please go to the hot tub.
She said, “ yes be safe and I’m coming with you”!
That was the very first thing I wanted to do.
I said, “ok When I was done with the tub I went swimming in the regular pool side. I had so much fun swimming . I went down slides and it was a blast . I was not scared at all.
I had a dance party later that night I played with my friends . I played so many games with them. I went to the arcade and it was so much fun . I do not remember what games I was playing.
The next day I played on the rope course . There were ladders and a rock wall . I had a harness on me. I went to the dance party and I jumped and danced then it was over I had my face painted . My face was painted as an orange tiger. I love getting my face painted.
That was one of my favorite things there.
I ate pizza and it was pineapple pizza. The pizza was the best pizza I ever ate and once I ate it I never wanted to stop eating it .
I played golf . Sometimes I missed and sometimes I made it . Golf is so fun! I was challenging my mom and dad and I won with 10 in the hole
I took pictures with my friends. I took pictures with Wiley and Vioilet the wolf. I had ice cream and it was chocolate ice cream. The icecream melted on my hand but at least I ate some of it
I went to bed really late and I was happy. I watched a movie and played hide and seek . I'm the best at hide and seek !! I also played tag and I’m so fast. I did story time with the characters. I loved the story. The story was great !! I got a fake tattoo and it lasted a week. The tattoo is a crab and it was colored with the best colors and I liked it.
I am a very good drawer. I made my own badge and it was so cool.It was a medal badge and I drawed on a paper and then they put the paper on the medal badge and I added so much decoracion.
I went to our room and I jumped on the bed and I’m lucky it did not break.
We had cookies delivered to the room. It was so good. They were soft and warm. I asked for more and they brought a nother bole up here
I went to the gift shop and got prizes. I had fun with my mom,dad and friend. I had the best 5th birthday party ever!!!!!
First Day Jitters !
The night before the first day of school I had to go to bed early. My parents wanted me to be ready and awake for my very first day. I think I went to bed at 8:00 pm . They wanted me to get a good night's rest. We read a bedtime story about school . The book was called’ How to be cool in 3rd grade by Betsy Duffey . Next thing I know it was morning time. I woke up and I put my clothes on. I was happy about not having to wear my Alma uniform because I was actually going to be doing remote learning. I was nervous about 3rd grade. I was nervous about if my teacher would like me or not. I had butterflies in my stomach. I had the first day of school jitters!! I was also excited because I can finally see my friends. Before the start of school my mom had me take pictures. She does this every year so that when I grow up I can look back and have it as memories. I also ate breakfast. I think I ate applejacks. Next thing I know it was time to log on to zoom. When I went on zoom I saw my teacher and I was so so so scared . I did not know what remote learning would be like. I was super excited to see my teacher . She is very funny and she is such a kind teacher. Her name is Ms. Sylvia. She is the best teacher in the world and she is very pretty. She made us feel calm and I was not really nervous anymore . She told me “it’s ok 3rd grade is so much fun” . Also she told me that “learning is so much fun we make each class into a game”. When she told me that I knew this is going to be a great grade !!! When school was done for the day I was sad because it went by fast . When my mom and dad got home from work I told them all about how my day went. I told them that I was still a little scared about remote learning but that my teachers are very kind. My entire family also checked up on me to ask how my day went. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all called me. I told them that I had a great first day of school and that my teachers were very kind. My family cannot believe I am in third grade already. They said just the other day I was a baby. I went to bed early again that night. I was excited for tomorrow . I know this is going to be a terrific year!!!
