As a class we recently finished reading the Gold Cadillac by Mildred D. Taylor. This book tells the story of a Black family during the 1950’s during the civil rights movement. These diaries were written by students from the perspective of one member of this family, either ‘lois, the youngest daughter, father, or mother as the family faces discrimination, segregation, and racism.
The Day My Sister Was Born
One day my mom woke me up and she had a bag in her hand. I said “where are you going?”
She replied, “it's a surprise.”
“Ok”, I said.
Then my babysitter came. I was so excited even though she's mean. Later that day my brother King left for three days.
I said “yay” because his dad was coming. Then my babysitter had to leave. I said how if I am not going down she said you're going to Titi’s house. I also was so happy my babysitter had to go to work. I stayed at my aunt's house for three days. Finally before I left my house the baby sister was born. I was so shocked to see her. My mom had to stay for three days. I played with my cousins that live up stars from were sleep for three day i was happy even though i'm going to have to clean i sometimes i even prefun so don't have to go down stairs to watch football or basketball three days later it was time for me to go home i called that day i seed can i see the baby she was eating her bottle i screamed aaaaaaah she started to cry waaaaaa i seed is she ok. Then I asked my aunt if I could come and watch the scary movie then it was time to go to bed. Christmas Morning
Once it was christmas and I woke up at 5:00. I ran downstairs and I saw so many presents and I was so happy. I ran in my mom’s room and I screamed “It’s Christmas!” Then I ran to start opening our stockings. Then we opened presents and my brother got an iPad. It was not fair. But, I had one more present. I was so excited, it was a phone. I ran upstairs with my phone getting ready to make a tic tock. I thought this was going to be my best present, but then my mom said time to go outside. My aunt was standing in the parking lot in a car with 4 boxes. I yelled, “ahhhhhh!” She said open the tow boxes. It was a hoverboard and a hover board set! I was so happy I cried. I rode it all day.
